A collection of oddball characters in dire situations trying to manage a maple syrup robbery to save their financial woes
When maple syrup producer Ruth Landry sees her livelihood under attack by greedy competitors who were once her friends, she hatches a plan to get revenge and shake up the industry. Loosely based on the 2011-2012 theft of $18 million worth of maple syrup from a storage facility in Quebec; five people were sentenced to prison. Ruth, whose husband is in a coma, has lost her right to sell maple syrup to the cartel, led by Leonard.
He is the only guard of the entire stock of maple syrup
It seems her husband owns the rights to harvest the syrup, so she has been fined for using his rights illegally. Remy, a sort of sad character, is the guard at the warehouse where all the syrup is stored and was taking a barrel or two out of the warehouse at night, with a friend who suddenly dies. Since Ruth got into financial trouble, the only way to get ahead was to steal on a much larger scale, and she and Remy brought Mike into the scheme.
The truth is quite different
Mike seems like a powerful person who can do big things. And with all the personality clashes and mix-ups, it almost becomes a Keystone PD caper. Every time they seem to have things under control, problems occur, and their approach to trying to solve them is a big part of the humor.
And a very interesting cameo appearance
One twist is that it leads into a second season, so there are a lot of loose ends. And as was made abundantly clear, that wasn’t how the actual robbery was carried out. So this is a fun fictional account.
