Dune’s original prologue tells how Rossak’s sister evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valya Harkonnen using her voice is from one called “Mentats of Duna”. The development of the Sisters, the Mentats, the Navigators and Doctor Who intertwines in all three books. This spinoff is more reminiscent of Game of Thrones than Dune.
It’s a great spin-off of a beloved movie franchise
Still, Dune: The Prophecy is everything I expected and more. I have to start by saying that I have never read the source material or seen the original film. My Dune experience is based on the two Dune movies that came out in the last few years, starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. These two movies (especially Dune: Part Two) are two of my favorite movies I’ve seen in the last few years.
it’s a lot of fun
I love them both so much, so I had high expectations for this series. Dune: Prophecy is a series set 10,000 years before the beginning of the Dune movies and is about how the Harkonnen sisters started the Bene Gesserit as a way to fight against the forces threatening the future of humanity. The show may feel more like Game of Thrones than Dune, but either way… The most important thing about this show is that it does exactly what it set out to do, which is deepen our understanding of the Bene Gesserit.
